Brindlequartz Moth Atlas

Mapping starts before dawn while the quarry wall remains cool and shadow lies across the eastern face. Observers walk the marked lower path without touching the rock. A moth is assigned to the nearest quartz seam, then described by wing band, resting angle, and distance above the path. Chalk marks are never added; locations are transferred to a paper grid using fixed iron pegs as reference points.

The next morning, a second observer repeats the route in reverse. Only locations confirmed on both walks enter the Brindlequartz Moth Atlas. Each accepted point also carries a note for overnight temperature and wind. The paired surveys reveal which pale seams provide dependable shelter, allowing quarry stewards to plan drainage repairs around the most frequently occupied sections.
